Investigating Folk Medicine Mariana Herrera Anthony Hernandez Saulo Padilla Elizabeth Melendez

Folk Medicine There were no hospitals in the past. People used herbs and plants to heal sick people. The medicine was gathered from peoples garden.

Soar Throat To cure a sore throat drink warm water and salt or put a dirty sock around your neck.

Stomachache To stop a stomachache eat crushed ice with baking soda on top of it. You can also make a tea of Yerba Buena.

Wounds and Cuts To stop wounds or cuts put lots of cobwebs where your cut is located. To cure any wounds or cuts use a plant that is called Aloe Vera, it might be located in your garden.

Headaches To stop a headache put cinnamon with water. Yerba Buena otherwise known as Spearmint, can be brewed into a tea. Other herbs can be made into tea to help a headache like Horsetail or Manzanilla/Chamomile.

Broken Bones To prevent Broken Bones drink lots of milk. If you break a bone put a splint on it. These are straight stick tied to the broken bone to act as support in place of the bone. Arnica will help it heal faster.

Superstition Superstition played a roll because they thought silly things would stop you from getting sick or would make you well. People believed things that weren’t true like snail jelly would help birth a child. Midwives were witches. Magic spells could make you well. Dragon dung and ashes of toad were things they believed could help cure you.

Folk Healers Folk healers are like doctors that help you and know folk medicine. Some types of folk healers are: Midwives, Curranderas and Shamans. Today Alternative healers use folk medicine.

Conclusion Our conclusion is that Folk Medicine was used in the past and is still used today.Folk Medicine could be used today to cure older people.Folk Medicine has proven that it could heal you.
