6  Scouts engage in conversations with other Scouts across the country and around the world.  They get a glimpse of other cultures and regional differences.  Gets them started on Citizenship in the World Merit Badge (requirement 9b, take part in international event)  Scouts get exposed to the technology, fun and magic of amateur radio. 7  Amateur radio, also ham radio, is both a hobby and a service using radio communications equipment to communicate with other amateur operators for public services, recreation, and self-training.  It covers many aspects of radio communication from long distance communication, to satellite communication, and communication support to local events and emergencies. 9  Line up a district or council camporee with JOTA weekend --- October 19/20, 2013  Reach out to local ham radio operators to set up a station during your camporee as one of the many activities available to Cub & Boy Scouts and Venturers.  Publicize the availability of the JOTA station  Provide needed support and access to the operators How do I organize a JOTA event? 9
