Introduction Introduction My name is Kate. I study at College of Hospitality Industry and Management №23. My future profession is a hotel service manager, but I’d like someday to become a general manager of any hotel. It is a hard way — the way from the just manager to general one. But as spoken: easily not catch fish from the pond.

IN THE CHILDHOOD I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I WANTED TO BE.I LIKED DIFFERENT PROFESSION: A,. BUT WHEN I GREW UP I HAD ONLY A WISH TO TRAVEL AND TO COMMUNICATE WITH PEOPLE. AND MY DREAM BECOMES REAL, STUDYING AT COLLEGE IS THE FIRST STEP TO MY GOAL. When I was little, I often traveled with their parents. As I grew up and studied in high school I wanted to be a veterinarian, then thought to be a photographer or a filmmaker, but I wanted to communicate with people and therefore have chosen this profession.

What would I do if I were a general manager of the hotel?

My short imagination about: If I were a general manager, I would be at the head of the hotel, run and control the whole work of it. I would see that the hotel were profitable. I would be the best and the justest boss. I hope.

Then I would think about the departments. The departments are : Front Desk or Reception, Food and Beverages Department, Housekeeping, Purchasing Department and so on. The number of departments and staff would depend on the size of the hotel. All departments would be closely connected

If I were a General Manager of the hotel If I were a general manager of the hotel, first what would I do...I would hire the professionals in this business for my team. Because the man is a very important figure of any hotel, as an employee, as a guest and the main task of all personnel is to look after guests, and each member of the staff has its own duty and responsibility.

The staff at the hotel. The hotel personnel is one of the most important elements of any hotel. The team working in the hotel forms the ratio of guests to the brand of the hotel.

For serving guests, I would need the following staff: Doormen Receptionist Housemaids Cooks Waiters and others.

Doorman. Porter is an employee of or a hotel with whom we meet at the entrance to the hotel and helps to carry luggage. At first sight it may seem that it is very simple and does not require training profession, but it is only at first glance.

Receptionist. The first acquaintance with a hotel and get information about the institution is carried out at the reception. External appearance and solidity of the reception should stress level, who wants to see the guest is still at the entrance, seeing the hotel worthy of his presence.

Housemaids. Removes and contains clean and habitable rooms, bathrooms and other assigned areas. Provides bed linen and towels within the period prescribed service standards and internal regulations in the hotel, cleans the bed.

Facilities of my hotel would include accommodation with shower, air conditioning, balcony or terrace, furnished with comfort and style: a fully equipped kitchen, telephone and satellite TV in each room, a swimming pool, a tennis court, a children's room, laundry service and baby-sitting on request, conference facilities, sauna and also a solarium, a car park behind the hotel, two restaurants an outdoor and indoor bars.

English language is an important part of the work of the hotel service manager. We have to speak with people from different countries. Knowledge of English by the staff raise the status of the hotel.

In conclusion, I would like to say that everything is in our hands and depends on us. Profession of manager requires us to know foreign languages, first of all English. Many of my friends say that they needn’t this knowledge. I’m of another opinion. I’m sure that without knowing languages it is difficult to be a good specialist of the hotel service, and I believe that English will help me to become a general manager in the future.
