Duplicates – Duplicate records for grade 10 Census records on local student id/district– 116 Some bad student id’s (different name, same code) Students with two records – Often a hand-bubbled answer document and an unused pre- id document – These will lower AYP Participation rate – Duplicates can be deleted with appropriate documentation, CDE approval, ETS charges $100 per student deleted.

15
15 Graduation Rates NCES Graduation Rate (used for 2011 AYP) – Numerator Number of Grade 12 Graduates – Includes SWD Waivers and Exemptions – Denominator Number of Grade 12 Graduates plus Number of dropouts for graduating class over the past 4 years – Not part of the calculation GED CHSPE Other non-graduating completers
16
16 4-Year Graduation Rate 4-year Cohort Graduation Rate – Districts first held accountable in 2012 AYP. – Class of 2010 rate used to set graduation rate growth targets for 2012 AYP Currently available on Dataquest – Rate is the number of graduates (2010) divided by then number in the 4-year Cohort (2006-2010) Definition of Graduate differs from NCES definition
17
17 4-Year Graduation Rate Targets Same Growth target scheme as 2011 AYP – Target is 90% – Fixed growth target is 10% of the difference between 90% and the 2009 AYP Graduation Rate E.g. 2009 rate of 72%. Fixed rate is.1 * (90%-72%) = 1.8%. 2011 target is 72% +1.8% + 1.8% = 75.6% – Variable growth target is the difference between 90% and the previous years actual rate divided by the number of years until 2019 E.g. 2010 AYP rate is 72%. Growth target is (90%-72%) / 9 = 2%. 2011 AYP target is 72% + 2% = 74% – Target is the lowest of the above 3 options
18
18 4-Year Cohort New students who were first time 9 th graders (data element in CALPADS) from... – 2006-2007 9 th graders – 2007-2008 10 th graders – 2009-2009 11 th graders – 2010-2011 12 th graders Subtract students with approved exit codes
19
19 4-Year Cohort Exit Codes Transfer to another CA Public School (codes T160, T165, T167) – Determine school of last exit (using SSID) If a different CA public school – out of cohort If lost transfer – stay in cohort If Re-enrolled dropout – out of cohort
