GED is supposed to be a high school equivalency certificate Heckman Paper 1992 using 1970’s data Data from 80’s and 90’s puts GED outcomes between Dropouts and Graduates Most current information compares incomes at age 25 (in 2011) of national sample of 10 th graders from 2002 Begs question “Why aren’t GEDs more like Graduates?”

WHAT IS AN OREGON DROPOUT? Based on 4-Year Cohort If 1,000 start 9 th grade 10 drop out in grade 9 25 drop out in grade 10 75 drop in grade 11 40 drop in grade 12 Then 150 dropped out If 800 graduated in 4 years, then 80% graduation rate The remaining 50 are either 5 th year or completers
