A fun opening: Comic Books 1. Do you like reading comic books? 2. I just read an article on comic books. 3. I once read comic books in class when the teacher was absent from school. Of course I was wrong, but it only showed how popular comic books are among students.

Sequence of points Is the sequence important? Which point can be deleted without losing the flow of the 2-minute presentation? Where should personal opinion come in? When should the presenter wrap up? Wake-up call: That’s all for my presentation. Thank you.

Preparation for Part II The examiner will read the questions for you before the two-minute preparation time. No writing during the two minutes. To consider the points provided by others

Discussion Speak up: the examiners may be 7 feet away from you Give one to two ideas each time (do not speak for too long) Allow other candidates to provide input Use simple English (using the same terms shown in passage is not necessary) Be courteous

Making references / Inviting others 1. Just now you mentioned about the price of comic books. Could you elaborate a bit there? 2. You had a good point there. Would you care to explain some more? 3. Your comic books passage may be of use to our project. Could you repeat one point there?

Discussion Help group members who are having difficulty explaining their points. There is no need to vote. There is no need to come to a conclusion. Do not spend too much time on procedures. Always remember: other candidates do not share your school environment.

Wrap up Note well when you have two more minutes to go Wrap up when you have only one minute to go; summarize what has been discussed. “ I think that ’ s all we have time for. Did I miss anything? ” “ Thank you for a useful discussion. ”

Leaving the centre Look at the examiner who gives candidates instructions. Nod to everyone in the room. Leave your chair and room as quietly as possible. Enjoy the rest of the AL exams!
