4 Respiratory Clinician in each acute trust May be more than one champion – eg. consultant plus stop smoking practitioner but clinician input invaluable Committed to the idea of stop smoking as treatment for inpatients and outpatients ie sick smokers Therefore central to standard care

Smoking cessation is a TREATMENT for sick smokers, not prevention Significant numbers of smokers (and their families) who need treatment are in (or visiting) HOSPITALS Evidence exists that QS interventions are EFFECTIVE in hospital GAINS for the patients are enormous GAINS for the hospital health economy are potentially enormous, both in terms of cost savings on patient-related use of resources and also in terms of staff smoking.
