Course Description The purpose of the course is to provide essential knowledge on networking infrastructure, different types of networks and network hardware and software. Coverage includes data transmission, hubs, switches, routers, topology, wiring and physical topology Protocol, layering LAN, WAN and internetworking.

COURSE DESIGN This course is organized into 5 main units: –Unit 1: Introduction to Networking (Ch 1 & 2) –Introduction to networking –Motivation for Networking and Internetworking –Unit 2: Data Transmission (Ch 4 & 6) –Basics of data transmission –Overview of Transmission media –Bandwidth and delay terminologies –Unit 3: Packet Transmission (Ch 7, 8, 9, 10, 16) –Overview of Packets, frames and error detection –Network Topology and LAN/WAN technologies –LAN wiring and physical topology –Protocols and layering

COURSE DESIGN This course is organized into 5 main units: –Unit 4: Internetworking: Concepts, architectures & Protocols (17, 18, 25, 26 ) –Concepts, architecture and protocols. –Internet protocol –TCP protocol. –Network Address Translation
