2 Citizenship, an introduction…
What does citizen mean… A member of a nation who owes its allegiance to its government and is entitled (allowed) to its protection. A few duties of a good citizen… Obey Laws Vote REGULARLY Pay taxes Serve Jury Duty Respect the rights of others Help in the Community

3 Three ways to become a U.S. Citizen
Jus Soli Law of the Soil This says you are an American citizen if you are born on American soil. Jus Sanguines Law of the Blood This says that if one of your parents is an American, then you are an American Citizen. Naturalization Gaining citizenship after birth.

4 Naturalization, the process
Naturalization is a four step process Petition for naturalization This is kind of like a job application Take a class on naturalization Just like a class here at the high school Go through an interview process Again think of a job interview Pass the naturalization test Take a test on questions about the United States of America.

The next several slides we are going see as a group how well we would do on a naturalization test. We are going to use your remote control to vote. It’s simple, after you see the answer choices for question push the button that you think is correct before the time runs out.

Each state votes for a President and whoever wins that state gets all the electoral votes for that state.
