What does it mean? Haiti means Land of the Mountains.

Disadvantages Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. It relies on the US for many of its exports.

What does the flag mean? The two colors represent the black and mulattoe population. The motto is L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE which means UNION MAKES STRENGTH.

Why do they speak French? Columbus found Haiti on December 6, 1492. Haiti had fell to Spanish rule and then it was one by a French colonist and it became the French colony of Saint Dominique in 1697. They finally got their independence on January 1 st 1804.
