Welcome to: Online Student Training Note: The 2 programs are essentially the same. The only difference is that PA Career Guides users do not receive a LIVE one-to-one mentor. Directions: Press the Forward Arrow  to advance through the entire presentation

What are PA eMentoring and PA Career Guides? These are online programs where students and adults can connect to explore careers, career pathways, and share experience and resources.

Learning about careers and networking with a working professional are two great benefits of these programs! What will YOU get out of it? - Career knowledge -Self-awareness - Better self esteem - Post-secondary plan - Career Documents College and Career Profile Activity Journal

-Send at least one message per week (PA eMentoring only) -Review your plan as it is being created -Ask questions! Student Goals: -Complete ALL 10 activities (1 activity per week) -Review your mentor’s and guides’ activity results

Your first step is to create a profile. Notice the progress bar at the top of the page. Choose an avatar that best represents yourself to your mentor. You can upload a picture or use one of our icons. Use the arrow to the right to scroll.

You will be asked to take a short, 10 question survey. Please answer these questions as accurately as possible.

The profile page is one of the most important components. It allows us to match you to mentors and guides that have similar interests in careers, education paths, or personal interests and hobbies. Remember to save each block when you are done!

For eMentoring only: Read through each of the six mentor profiles by clicking on the mentor name. Be sure to read all parts of the profile so you can select a mentor that you find interesting. Once you find a mentor, click on the button to the right of his/her name. Scroll down and click continue.

You will be able search for and select Career Guides. Career Guides are mentor profiles that you can follow while completing your activities. You can comment on their activities, and learn all about their careers! Choose career guides by searching career cluster, career pathway, gender, and/or education/degree held.

PA eMentoring Only: Introduce yourself to your mentor by creating an introduction message. Make sure you focus on your writing. This is the perfect opportunity to tell your mentor about yourself and what you are interested in pursuing after high school. You can also ask questions!

This is your homepage. Notice the tabs on the left hand side of your screen. The “Home” tab will show you your To-dos and Updates. The new To-dos and updates are highlighted in red. Once you act on the to-do, it will change to gray. This will keep you very organized while completing the program.

The ‘Mentor’ tab will show you your live mentor and career guides. Notice the messages and unread messages. You can view your career guides’ activities and remove career guides here.

Click on the activities tab to view and complete your activities. Once you complete an activity, you MUST comment on the activity before you can proceed. Your “To Do” list will instruct you to do so. Remember to complete 1 activity per week.

You can always change your avatar or profile information by clicking on the profile tab.

ATTENTION PA eMentoring Students: Completing activities and messaging your mentor is what makes the program successful. If you fail to login to the program for longer than a three week period, you will lose privileges in messaging your mentor. You MUST continue to complete the activities, but will not have the messaging feature.

Writing Etiquette: for messages and activities Remember, mentors and guides as well as your teacher will be reviewing your work periodically. Use professional writing. If you are to miss a class or fall behind with your work, it is appropriate to message your mentor to notify them of your delay. Here are some tips: Use mixed case UPPER CASE LOOKS AS IF YOU'RE SHOUTING Professional Writing No text language – lol; idk; ttyl

Role of Mentors and Guides Mentors are expected to share their experiences, knowledge and advice with YOU! Mentors are NOT relationship advisors, ATM’s, dates or parents for students. Any inappropriate communication from a mentor or student MUST be reported immediately. Guides share their experiences, knowledge and advice with YOU! You can comment on guides activities any time you want.
