HOW DIGITAL ARE YOUR STUDENTS? Sts are comfortable with technology. Sts often rush through tasks in class. Sts multi-task in their private lives. Sts regularly use the Internet and computer games. Sts find visual stimuli very motivating. Sts interact with friends through e- mails and mobile phone text messages. Sts lose interest unless there’s variety of activities and brisk pace in class.

BASIC 3 – B5 Inventions / Inventors E-routes (Language Lab-Reading Lab-Level 2-Famous Scots) Suggested procedures: At the end of B4 (Lesson 11 Plan of Work), tell sts – a game next lesson based on the E-Route text (HW).

Language Focus: During or after the games, exploit passage content briefly & pre-cycle target lgg, e.g. Who invented the telephone? What did Fleming discover? Land of beer Portuguese women, of brandy Tom Cruise. Suggested procedures: Beginning of B5 (L12) Tic-tac-toe: Read the passage in advance & prepare 9 prompts, e.g. T/F, gap-fill, wrong info. Excuse me: Print passage & plan “wrong” factual information. Read passage aloud, Sts identify “problem”, say “Excuse me” & correct info. Land of whisky mountains, of whisky Mel Gibson. Japanese Focus: Questions with / without auxiliaries Alternatively, ask students to ‘prepare’ the content for the games.

Suggested Procedures: Either in L13 or L14 (open), elicit the meaning of new words. Draw the same family tree on B. Use it to revise possessive ‘S (B5) & talking about age (A4) by asking sts to guess people’s ages. Go to Take Action 1 lesson, e.g. # 4 (Resources Pack – Practise Twins).

Or use it in an Open Lesson before PC1. You may need to write a sketch map on board or a few focus sentences. Tourist 1:Excuse me, is there a bank near here? Woman: Yes. Go straight on. Turn right and the bank is next to the cinema. Tourist 1: Thank you. Tourist 2: Excuse me, is there a tube station near here? Man: Yes. Go straight on and turn left.
