2 Can I help you find something ?  I’m just looking/we’re just looking, thank you.  Yes, please, I’m looking for ___________. A salesperson might say this when you walk in a store: Hi, can I help you find something today? I’m just looking, thank you. Okay, just let me know if I can help you later!

3 Let me know!  Let (me, you, him, her, us, them) know = tell (me) later! A: Did she have a girl or a boy? B: I don’t know. I’m going to call them right now. A: Please let me know as soon as you can. B: Okay, I’ll call you right away. What are they talking about?

4 What do you think of_____?  What do you think of = what is your opinion of  What do you think of classical music? I like it, but I like rock music more.  What do you think of mushrooms? Yuck! –or- I think they’re delicious!  What do you think of dogs? They’re okay. Cats are better.

5 Ask you partner:  What do you think of:  American food  School  Rock music  Strawberries  The mall  Sports  __________ Possible answers: I like it I love it! I don’t like it. It’s okay. Yummy! It’s _________.

6 How much…..?  How much are these? /How much is this? Excuse me, how much are these sunglasses? I’m not sure, let me check. How much is this jacket? Let’s see…It’s $50.

7 She’s over there!  She’s/he’s/it’s/they’re over there = use this to tell someone where someone or something is. A: Excuse me, where’s the teacher? B: She’s right over there, next to the computer. A: Can you tell me where the bathroom is? B: It’s right over there, next to the water fountain. In American culture, it’s okay to point to things, and it’s okay to point at people if you point next to them (not at them).

8 Go over there Come (over) here  Go over there = go to that place  Come (over) here = come to my place A: Where’s my book? B: I think you left it at Sarah’s house. A: Oh no! I need to go over there and get it.

9 With your partner:  Ask where your classmates are, or things in the classroom or ELP.  Excuse me, where’s the ____________?  Can you tell me where the _______ is?  Answer: She/he/it’s right over there, next to the _________.

10 Try (something) on  Try it on/try them on = put it on to see if you like it or want to buy it A: I like this shirt! B: You should try it on! A: These shoes are really nice! B: Why don’t you try them on? A: Excuse me, where can I try this shirt on? B: The fitting room is right over there. A: Excuse me, where can I try these shoes on? B: A chair and a mirror is right over here.

11 Go on in! Come on in!  Go on in = you can go inside the building  Come on in = come inside with me (these are friendly expressions!) A: Is the restaurant open? B: Yes, you can go on in! A: Don’t wait for me. I’ll park the car. You can go on in. B: Okay, we’ll see you inside. A: Hi everyone! Come on in. Thank you for coming to my home.

12 How does it look?  What do you think of these shoes?  What do you think of this sweater? Answer: It looks/They look ____________. (nice/cute/pretty/ugly/terrible) Ask you partner about what you are wearing today!

13 I’ll take it!  Tell this to a salesperson when you are ready to buy! A: Hi, do you want to take the sweater? B: Yes, I’ll take it! A: Did those shoes work out for you? B: Yes, I’ll take them. A: Will that be all? B: I think I’ll take this necklace, too. Take out some things on your desk. Try to “sell” them to your partner, using the same kind of conversation as above.
