Katy Perry’s “Firework”

2 You = Plastic Bag Simile Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
A figure of speech which involves a direct comparison between two unlike things, usually with the words like or as. Do you ever feel like a plastic bag Drifting through the wind Wanting to start again

3 Simile You = House of Cards Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards One blow from caving in

4 Alliteration The ‘S’ is repeated.
Repeated consonant sounds occurring at the beginning of words or within words. Do you ever feel already buried deep Six feet under scream But no one seems to hear a thing

5 Personification The Fourth of July owns the night? A figure of speech which gives the qualities of a person to an animal, an object, or an idea. Do you know that there's still a chance for you ‘Cause there's a spark in you You just gotta ignite the light And let it shine Just own the night Like the Fourth of July

6 Hyperbole An exaggerated statement used to heighten effect.
Cause baby you're a firework Come on show 'em what you’re worth Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!" As you shoot across the sky Baby you're a firework Come on let your colors burst You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down Shoot across the sky? Not gonna happen!

7 Personification Does the future have hands? I don’t think so!
You don't have to feel like a waste of space You're original, cannot be replaced If you only knew what the future holds After a hurricane comes a rainbow Does the future have hands? I don’t think so!

8 Excuse me. Um, door, will you be my guide?
Personification Maybe you're the reason why all the doors are closed So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow And when it's time, you'll know You just gotta ignite the light And let it shine Just own the night Like the Fourth of July Excuse me. Um, door, will you be my guide?

9 Metaphor You = Firework
A figure of speech which involves an implied comparison between two relatively unlike things using a form of be. The comparison is not announced by like or as. Cause baby you're a firework Come on show 'em what you’re worth Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!" As you shoot across the sky Baby you're a firework Come on let your colors burst You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down

10 Onomatopoeia The use of words that mimic sounds. Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon It's always been inside of you, you, you And now it's time to let it through
