5 Interpreting Maps Look over the maps and answer the 4 questions. Discuss with your table: –Based on the maps you are seeing, what was the end result of the Six Day War? –Would this promote peace?

6 2. Important Vocab of the Six Day War Occupied territories: land acquired by Israel in 1967— West Bank, Gaza, E Jerusalem. Approx 4 million Palestinians and 40,000 Israeli settlers live in the territory. DISPUTED Control. Land for Peace: UN resolution asked Israel to return the occupied lands to Palestine/Arab nations in exchange for peace. –Israel to withdraw from occupied territories –States in the region must recognize each other’s right to exist –Resolution of the Palestinian refugee problem

7 2. Important Vocab of the Six Day War Settlements: Jewish civilian communities built in the places occupied by Israel during the Six Day War (Occupied territories). These are considered illegal by the international community. Refugee: sometimes called a ‘displaced person;’ anyone living outside of his country who cannot return or will not return for fear of persecution

8 2. Important Vocab of the Six Day War Green Line: demarcation line (line that draws boundaries usually as a result of a cease-fire) that separated the land between the Arabs and Israelis in 1949 and again in 1967.
