Career Path Option 1: Lawyer Education Required Bachelor’s Degree (4-year degree) Law School Degree (J.D., 3-4 years) Average total number of years in college = 7 - 8 Median Salary Lawyer = $68,000 - $75,000 (depending on location) Typical Work Schedule Very demanding ▪ Normally not a regular 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. schedule Expect to work long hours ▪ 10-12 hour days, 6-7 days a week (no overtime pay)

Career Path Option 2: Paralegal or Legal Secretary/Assistant Education Required Associate of Arts Degree (60 semester units) Certificate (27 semester units) Average total number of years in college = 1.5 – 2 Median Salary Paralegal = $48,000 - $55,000 Legal Assistant/Secretary = $45,000 - $50,000 Typical Work Schedule Normally Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. schedule During busy periods expect some: ▪ Nights, weekends and holidays may be required (overtime is paid)
