How Guinea Pigs can Stay Fit By Sebastian Aparicio
2
How a guinea pig’s body works. Guinea pigs are very chubby. Anyone who has at least seen one can know that. But on the inside, they seem less fat. Make sure to bring your guinea pig outside every once and a while. But stand close to it, or else it will be attacked by a hawk or eagle.
3
Habitat Guinea pigs come from South America, where some Natives had tamed some wild cavies.(Guinea pigs) They were raising them for food. Spanish sailors brought some to Europe in the 1600s. The wild cavies nested in mountains and grasslands of Peru, Bolivia and other South America countries.
4
Life. Guinea pigs are herbivores. They live together, or in a herd. If they are being chased by a predator, they hide or lay completely still. They warn each other of danger, like a predator by squeaking. They make paths for each other in the tall grass.
5
Life part 2. Babies stay with their moms for 6 to 8 weeks, then they are ready to live with an owner. Males are larger than the females. Once two guinea pigs are bred, they should be separated, or the male will mate with the female right after the babies are born. 2 males will fight with each other, and 2 females will probably get along better.
6
As a pet They can’t run around as much. They are very scared at first. They get exited by food. 2 guinea pigs(A girl and a boy) can turn into 15!!!! They can mate very fast. They love to be cuddled.
7
How they can stay fit. Eating thing like strawberries, lettuce, and celery only once a day. Eating those foods all the time can cause a guinea pig to gain weight. Because to us, those foods are healthy, but to a guinea pig, those foods are desserts.
8
Fun Facts Their real names are ‘cavies’, which is in their name, ‘Cavia Porcellus’. They are from the Andes. Guinea pigs are 20-25 cm long The people from near the Andes ate them as a snack. People still eat them as a snack. YUCK!
