Administrators Guide to ICAP: Why you can invest in it: – It’s best for students and their ability to transition seamlessly.. – it is a process that has been happening already (Comprehensive Guidance) and is now mandated by the state – that is a good thing. – It might help assess your institution with what academic needs are to be met in addition to involving the Business & Industry found in your community –to ensure employment of our students in their changing future. – Data from ICAP can be used for retention and enrollment efforts. Why it is NOT a tracking system : – Pathways, Clusters and Plans are always flexible, changeable and are meant to be portable. – ICAP is a process with which awareness, exploration and preparation for the future are supported. – The plan is mandated to be reviewed annually which means updating it annually; however, most schools will update more frequently due to the nature and development of our young people. ICAP is for 9-12 th graders to have access to and assistance with. The “bookends”: MS and PS institutions are bridging the gaps. – Capabilities to “pull up”, “log into” or “download” an incoming students’ ICAP will enhance the academic advisement and student retention process. How to get involved: – Ask you student about their ICAP. You have a great influence and could be someone's first role model! – Ask them about their interested in the world, outside of school. – Discuss their goals dreams and hopes for the future. Allow their imaginations to soar, never discouraging the flight. No matter how old they are! – Talk to your colleagues and faculty counterparts as well as business and industry partners about their career choices and education/training – ask if your students can visit their work site to learn more about their jobs. – Volunteer at your feeder institutions– some districts are beginning Career and Academic explorations early! And continuing them late too! – Create and utilize a www.collegeincolorado.org account – see the resources that are available to help Explore, Prepare and Advance your students’ future.www.collegeincolorado.org What data supports the ICAP process: #1 The Current Colorado Pipeline: It is leaky. #2 The American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model: www.schoolcounselor.org : Focuses on the Career, Academic and Personal/Social lives of all students.
