5 New Graduate Program August 2015  Meet: 2x/ month August- December  Tuesdays/ Wednesdays, usually at 1500  PLEASE work to include these dates into your schedule starting now, so we can enlist help from the supervisors to get shifts covered if need be!  FULL-TIME New Graduates, who attend 80% or more of the New Graduate Events will be considered having “Completed” the Program; and will receive the $200 stipend  Debriefing, Educational modules, Guest speakers, and always food!

8 Professionalism  Working in less “formal” healthcare environment, but still PROFESSIONAL (ie. Working under your RN LICENSE..)  What is OK to vary from Nursing School/ hospital positions, what is not??  Always error on the side of caution; if you don’t know, ASK!

9 Importance of Professionalism in the work environment To earn and keep respect among: Peers Other HCPs Patients/ patient families Supervisors/ management Respect To keep boundaries established Identifies you as the care provider Boundaries PROTECT YOR LICENSE Stay within company policy License

10 Professionalism: the BASICS Professional Dress ▫What is the patient/ parent ok with VS. what is ok to do as a professional? Attendance ▫Notice when sick ▫Notice for Vacation/ plans Timeliness What about…. Yoga Pants? No Shorts? No Open Toed Shoes? No Badge? YES

12 Professional Communications… Phone  Calling Providers  Be prepared and professional  Text messaging  No patient names  Use with Patients  HIPAA!  Do Not e-mail or text the patient’s name to ANYONE. E-mail QTPIEGURL47@aol.com......What impression does this give your management team/ other healthcare providers/ families??  Titles/ Addressing E-mails  “Mr.”/ “Mrs.” / always sign your name and contact information to e-mails  Verbiage/ Grammar/ punctuation/ spelling…..  “Ranting”  It’s unneccesary and unprofessional. If you are frustrated/ irritated/ etc. it’s always best to meet and talk face to face

13 Supervisors  9-5  Best to contact work number, leave message  Text-messaging?  Time-sensitive  Imperative information **When to contact On-Call Other RNs/ HCPs  About patients?  Professional verbiage  Time sensitive, considerate  Friendships/ Social activities ? Patients/ Parents/ Families  If this parent worked for the Board of Nursing … would you tell them that?  Relationships change!  Be PROFESSIONAL, Be RESERVED, if you see the situation becoming unprofessional politely end the conversation and call your supervisor!
