ISLAND HOPPERS TEACHING, LLC I sland H oppers T eaching, LLC presents The Cervical Spine: Level One August 15 th and 16 th, 2015 Location: Ohau Shriners Hospitals for Children — Honolulu 1310 Punahou Street Honolulu, HI 96826-1099 Instructor: Dr. Marco Adame︠ Jr Federation of Physical Therapy CCU credits awarded to all participants: 14 ccu awarded for this class: The instructor: Course Bullets This level one course will introduce participants to the interrelatedness of the anatomy and function of the cervical spine and the upper quarter. In addition to exploring the normal anatomy and kinesiology of the cervical spine, participants will further develop the necessary manual skills during guided laboratory sessions to address common pathology of the cervical spine. Future courses will explore the relationships of the cervical spine with the scapula, shoulder complex, and the vestibular system and provide clinicians with the necessary evaluation and treatment skills to assist patients seeking to return to normal function. (Cervical level 2 and 3) Island Hoppers, LLC will provide the participants with CEU Island Hopper Teaching, LLC provides evidence-based physical therapy competency courses throughout the islands designed to improve patient outcomes. PT’s and PTA’s will receive both classroom and laboratory instruction from experienced physical therapists. Marco received his K.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Southern California in 2002. In 2006, he received his Doctor in physical therapy degree from the University of Southern California's Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy Program. In 2009, he returned to the University of Southern California to complete a year-long orthopaedic residency program where he assisted in teaching anatomy lab, orthopaedic clinical management, modalities and radiology. He has competed coursework in spinal manipulation under Doctors Peter Gibbon's and Philip Tehan. He became a board certified orthopaedic clinical specialist in 2011

Describe the normal anatomy of the cervical spine. Describe the osteokinematics and arthrokinematics of the cervical spine. Describe normal cervical spine function, including the relationship of the upper and lower cervical spine. Identify pertinent bony landmarks. Describe common pathologies of the cervical spine. Complete an effective and efficient clinical evaluation of the cervical spine, including establishing a diagnosis and appropriate and effective plan of care. Describe and treat cervicogenic dizziness. Participants will demonstrate competency through written and practical examination provided by the course instructor. Participants must pass both the written and practical examination to progress to the next course in the series. Participants will refine the following clinical skills under the guidance of experienced physical therapists: Palpation of important bony landmarks, muscle tissue, and joint articulations Appropriate tests and measures for the cervical spine and upper quarter, including a neuromuscular examination Tests and measures of the cervical component of the vestibular system Manual therapy techniques specifically for the cervical spine:
