Lake Ontario U.S. Entry Requirements

Travel Documents ► Canadian citizens are required to present one of the following valid WHTI-compliant documents when entering the United States by land or water: ► a passport; ► a NEXUS card; ► a Free and Secure Trade (FAST) card; ► an enhanced driver's licence (EDL) or enhanced identification card (EIC) from a province where a U.S.- approved EDL/EIC program has been implemented; or ► a Secure Certificate of Indian Status.

Children ► Canadian citizens aged 15 years or under are only required to present proof of Canadian citizenship, such as an original or a photocopy of a birth certificate, or an original citizenship card.

Nexus Card ► NEXUS is designed to expedite the border clearance process for low-risk, pre-approved travellers into Canada and the United States. ► Eligibility - you must do the following: ► submit an application and go through a registration process; ► satisfy the eligibility criteria; ► be admissible in Canada and the United States; and ► pass risk assessments by both countries.

Free & Secure Trade Card (FAST) ► Commercial Motor Vehicle ► Ensure Safety and Security ► Expedites legitimate trade across border

Enhanced Driver's Licence (EDL) ► denoting identity and citizenship that can be used to as a passport alternative at Canada- U.S. land and water border crossings ► A valid passport is still required to enter the United States by air ► Available through Service Ontario https://www.appointments.gov.on.ca/appoi ntments/Welcome.do?lang=EN

EDL Continued ► Similar in appearance to a regular driver’s licence ► CAN denoted in top right corner ► Machine Readable Zone on back ► Radio Frequency Identification chip embedded in card, unique identifier only, no personal information

User Fee Decals ► Required if you operate a private vessel that is 30 feet or more in length that enters the United States. ► Private Vessel Decal (30 feet or more in length): $27.50 (U.S.) per calendar year ► 2010 price ► to be affixed on the outside of the boat within 18 inches of the normal boarding area, where it is visible when doors/hatches are open. ► https://dtops.cbp.dhs.gov/

Courtesy Flags ► ► Between sunrise and sunset, when at anchor, or underway, ► ► foreign national colours are displayed at the foremost starboard spreader ► ► by mastless yacht, at the bow staff. ► ► The yacht’s ensign should be flown at the same time.

Duty Free Limits ► After 24 hr absence...C$50 --No Tobacco and Liquor ► After 48 hr absence...C$400 Tobacco...200 Cigarettes and 50 Cigars and 200g of loose Tobacco. Liquor....1.14L of spirits, 1.5L of wine,or 24 bottles or cans of beer.(8.5L) ► After 7 days absence...C$750 Tobacco...200 Cigarettes and 50 Cigars and 200g of Tobacco Liquor....1.14 litres of liquor or 1.5 litres of wine.
