 May: week-long, intensive, workshop on LAMP (Linux, Apache, mySQL, and Perl) by Roger Hall, Steve Jennings, and several BINF graduate students at JSU and work with JSU students on individual, bioinformatics-related projects. April 19, 2010AR INBRE Bioinformatics Core5

 June: JSU Bioinformatics Research Associate and four MS/advanced undergraduate students at UALR to work on individual research projects. Tutorials will be offered at this time as needed. April 19, 2010AR INBRE Bioinformatics Core6

 September: MBC Technical Director returns to JSU to conduct training on the R Statistical Analysis package during the 3-5pm weekday timeslots and to consult with students on their projects earlier in the day.  After new EIT building opened, online workshops for JSU, other RCMIs, and INBRE PUIs. April 19, 2010AR INBRE Bioinformatics Core7

 Hosted Bioinformatics BoF session at NISBRE 2008  NE-sponsored Core Facility Collaboration meeting hosted during same conference  Post-meeting:  Tried to get NCRR support for bioinformatics core collaboration, but unsuccessful in even getting list of bioinformatics core directors  NCRR people suggested we work with Core Facility folks April 19, 2010AR INBRE Bioinformatics Core8

 Network of IDeA Funded Core Laboratories founded  NICLweb.org  Core Facility Database  Initial organizational meeting held at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Association of Biomolecular Resource Core Facilities (ABRF) meeting in Memphis in February  Positive feedback from NCRR folks  Not much follow-through…  But another organizational “track” planned for NISBRE 2010 April 19, 2010AR INBRE Bioinformatics Core9

 New core facilities collaborations popping up:  NICL, in part, an outgrowth of Northeast Regional Life Sciences Core Directors  Midwest Association of Core Directors (wwwMWACD.org) organized at ABRF 2010  Prior to NM Bioinformatics Summit, a “western states” INBRE/COBRE bioinformatics cores meeting  All planning or have some kind of registry  Potential for significant overlap and most will not support a full feature set April 19, 2010AR INBRE Bioinformatics Core10

 National (international) organization  Good financial base  Mission to foster collaboration among cores  “Neutral” about technologies, funding sources, geography, etc.  Good standing with NSF/NIH  Potential funding opportunities April 19, 2010AR INBRE Bioinformatics Core11

 Develop organizational structure to support “affiliates” and “chapters”  For quick start-ups around “hot” interests  ABRF support for meetings, listservs, etc., with few requirements  Support the creation of a super-registry  Core Facilities  Regional Groups  Societies  Individuals  Graduate Programs  Approved by the ABRF Executive Board on Thursday  Asked to be Chair of Affiliates Committee; call this Friday  Working with current ABRF President, ABRF President-Elect, and FASEB President  Also asked to chair a session at ABRF 2011 on Bringing Special Interest Groups Together April 19, 2010AR INBRE Bioinformatics Core12
