Elements of successful lesson and some classroom management tips Lecturing
2
Give students the impression that you are well prepared, well organized, know the subject matter and excited about it. You need to show them that you care about them and their progress.
3
don’t assume that students understand what you are saying. Make the topic simple as much as you can. Try to make connection between the abstract terms (In sociology, political science and geography) and students’ lives. Don’t cover too much issues in one class, consider the development level of students at the school level age. don’t assume that students understand what you are saying. Try to get students' attention (by warming up activity) and don’t start the lesson until you see all students listening up to you. What strategies you can use to get students’ attention? It is recommended if you show the class agenda to your students. This helps you organize yourself and focus on the main points you want to teach. Opening activity: the purpose of the warming up exercise at the beginning of the class is to make connection between the previous lesson and the new one. It helps in getting students’ attention and preparing them for the class.
6
Try to make connection between the subject matter and students’ lives. Try to remember the names of your students and make eye contact with them. It is recommended if you have some humor in your class.

Make sure that students understand the class assignment or the homework. give them clear instructions how to do it, and how they are going to be graded as well. I suggest for you to assess students’ understanding by asking questions, worksheets, tests and quizzes. Another idea for assessment: Ask students to fill out the table at the beginning and the end of class What I know? What I want to know? What I learned? This question helps you to know the students’ prior knowledge about the topic. This question helps you to know what kind of motivation students have about studying the topic. Assessment question

Use visual aids and technology methods such as maps, graphic organizers, board, smart board, short clips. If use a short movie, then it is recommended to give students a worksheet with questions on it. Using the board helps you make the connection between the different ideas you teach, and helps students follow your explanations.
10
Keep in your mind that what is interesting to you in the subject matter not necessarily interesting for kids in the classroom. try to use students’ funds of knowledge (what they bring from their families and community) in your teaching.

You may want to use external materials in order to show another perspective about the same topic. For example (political science teachers may use an article from a newspaper to show how principles of democracy may contradict with each other). At the end of the class, you need to give a short summary of the main points discussed in the classroom, give students homework if you want.
