New Years Day is celebrated on January 1 st. The Babylonians originated the holiday 4000 years ago.

On New Years Day, Moslems wear new clothes. Southeast Asians release birds and turtles and wish them luck for the next twelve months. Jewish hold religious ceremonies and have a meal with special foods. Hindu’s put shrines next to their beds to see beautiful objects at the start of the new year. Japanese prepare rice cakes at a social event a week before the new year.

Most people celebrate New Years Day by having a party on New Years Eve until midnight and when the clock strikes twelve the ball at Times Square will drop and declare the New Year.
