ESTABLISHMENT STRATEGIES (THAT WORK) FOR ESTABLISHING A C/A RELATIONSHIP: Counselor must have a clear understanding of his/her role and function Meet with administrators individually & collectively Get a working understanding of the administrator’s leadership styles What has been the administrators’ relationship to/with counseling/counselors Make a clear case for how you can be a strong positive influence in fulfilling the overall mission of the school, i.e. AYP.

IMPROVEMENT STRATEGIES (THAT WORK) FOR IMPROVING C/A RELATIONSHIP: Find ways to include your administrators in the counseling program Use your counseling skills to show empathy, a nonjudgmental attitude and support for your principal’s work load

IMPROVEMENT CONT’D MORE STRATEGIES THAT WORK : Use data to show/prove your (counseling program) reason for existence Always reassure your principal that you both have the same end result in mind. Be a team player Be gracious and supportive
