7. Directional Terms Background  Anterior = front  The face is anterior to the butt  Posterior = back  The spine is posterior to the belly button  Superior = above, up  The nose is superior to the mouth  Inferior = below, down  The toes are inferior to the knees

Directional Terms Background  Proximal = closer to trunk of body  The shoulder is proximal than the elbow  Distal = further from trunk of body  The knees are distal than thigh  Medial = closer towards the middle of body  The nose is medial to the ears  Lateral = farther from the middle of the body  The wrists are lateral to the chest
