Ratios can be written three different ways. Example: Sarah was practicing free throws and made 3 shots out of 10. 3:10 3 to 10 three to ten ratio: a comparison of two numbers 5-1 Ratios
2
There were 2 core teachers and 47 students in 7th grade. Find the ratio of teachers to students. Write answer three different ways. # of teachers # of students = Write each ratio as a fraction : ex 1: wearing jeans to other types of pants ex 2: right-handed to left-handed ex 3: blonde haired to total students in class
3
= ÷ ÷ 4 4 = x 2 Review: You can create equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing the numerator and denominator of a fraction by the same number. Equivalent Ratios Equivalent ratios also name the same value. $21.00 6 baseballs = $7.00 2 baseballs (divide by 3)
4
Examples: Rate 420 beats 4 min = Equivalent Rate 3.) As Mrs. Patek jogged at a steady rate on a treadmill, her heart beat 420 times in 4 minutes. Find the number of times her heart would beat in triple the amount of time. Write two equivalent ratios for each ratio. 1.) 8:6 2.) 4:5 Tell whether the ratios are equivalent or not equivalent. 4.) 7 : 2 and 14 : 65.) 3 : 5 and 15 : 25
5
Ratios can be written in lowest terms like fractions. Write each ratio in lowest terms. 1.) 20 : 60 2.) 32 PC's to 40 laptops 3.) 20 dogs to 15 cats
6
Example: Write the following ratios three different ways. Write in lowest terms if possible. 1.) 6 weeks to 52 weeks 2.) 20 right-handed students to a total of 24 students Demonstrate Understanding: 3.) 28:704.) 400 boys to 450 girls
