6 The Royal Project 1969 -Launching of the Royal Project originated from His Majesty the King’s private study Objectives : 1.Offer a helping hand to all humankind; 2.Ensure natural resources for conserving a sustainable future; 3.Eradicate opium poppy cultivation and opium derived addition problems; 4.Encourage a wise and proper balance in utilising and conserving land and forest resources. 1969 -Launching of the Royal Project originated from His Majesty the King’s private study Objectives : 1.Offer a helping hand to all humankind; 2.Ensure natural resources for conserving a sustainable future; 3.Eradicate opium poppy cultivation and opium derived addition problems; 4.Encourage a wise and proper balance in utilising and conserving land and forest resources.

8 Operation of the Royal Project Foundation His Majesty holds the position of Honorary President of the Foundation Run under the directorship of His Serene Highness Prince Bhisadej Rajani in collaboration with the Royal Thai government, foreign governments, universities, public and private agencies and volunteers. Emphasis is made on R&D. 9 Research Research conducted at 6 experimental stations in Chiang Mai; 5 under the directorship of Kasetsart University and 1 of the Department of Agriculture; Crops on cultural trial : temperate fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, ferns, coffee, tea, shitake mushrooms, herbs, potatoes, legumes, cereals; dried flowers and fast growing species of forest trees. Previous accommodations : camping, bungalow, guesthouse in a hilltribe village Most recent accommodation : Angkhang Nature Resort, contributing part of its income to the Royal Project Tourists can explore the experimental plantations, taste and buy fresh produce as well as visit the adjacent hilltribe villages. 21 Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2006 An International Horticultural Exposition for His Majesty the King An A-1 Status International Horticultural Exposition will be held in Chiang Mai between 1 st November 2006 to the 31 st January 2007 to celebrate the 60 th Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s accession to the throne as well as his Majesty’s 80 th birthday anniversary.
