Mercantilism was a theory that said the best way to become a stronger nation was to acquire the most wealth. European countries were competing with each other to have the most colonies

The trans-Atlantic trade brought more slaves to the American colonies over time. The demand for slaves in North America increased due to cash crops, like tobacco. Most slaves were located in southern colonies

Slaves came from different cultures with varying religions, languages and cultures. Blending of African cultures created a unique African-American culture
