5 CHOOSE ONE QUESTION TO ANSWER IN DETAIL  Why did new religious movements emerge in the early nineteenth century?  How did a distinctive American literary culture develop?  What were the goals of the different social-reform movements?

6  Check out the table of contents on page xii to select which primary source you’ll analyze.  Choose ONE primary source from chapter 13 to read  After you’ve read, answer the review questions. Your answers must be written in complete sentences and be thorough. Looking for thoughtful and detailed responses!
