2 What is Mercury? Mercury is a liquid metal that has many uses.
Mercury is used in: Mascara Thermometers Barometers Electric switches Dental fillings Dry cell batteries Flourescent bulbs In gaseous form, it is highly toxic, and has many harmful effects.

3 Harmful Effects of Mercury to Humans
It’s a cumulative poison, meaning it collects inside of the body. It doesn’t break down. Most toxic in gaseous form Damages central nervous system, brain and kidneys Alters the genetic and enzyme systems Minimata disease – a neurological syndrome caused by intense mercury exposure

4 Harmful Effects of Mercury to the Environment
Animals who eat fish contaminated with mercury are affected the same way as humans. Animals affected by mercury can suffer from: Impaired vision and hearing Impaired growth Death Involuntary muscle movements Inability to reproduce Weight loss

5 Technologies’ Influence
Positive Influence Scientists are able to find a way to invent a type of gadget in which it contains mercury to exterminate bacteria and fungus Technology is used to filter the mercury-contaminated waters so it will again be safe for human and animal exposure Negative Influence World becoming advance = more power plants and more products that contain mercury Products include batteries, computers, appliances, etc Others include power plants, factories, farms, etc Power plants, farms and factories pollute air and contaminate the water with mercury
