Background of RCL Project ALA wanted to update Books for College Libraries GSIS discussion on core books list ALA partners with Bowker ALA partners with subject experts Result: The core list for academic libraries features 65,000 titles in 58 curriculum-specific subjects. Titles have been selected by more than 300 subject specialists and bibliographers.

Timeline of RCL Project August 2004 – Geology section editors recruited September 2004 -- February 2005 – Project parameters refined and discussed February-May 2005 – Subject taxonomy developed June 2005 – Authoring system tested and launched June 2005 to March 14, 2006 – Recruitment of bibliographers and identification, review and selection of resources May 2006 – Referee’s report and final review and editing July 2006 – RCL content and review completed September 2006 – RCLWeb launched
