1 Ten Bully Strategies for Bullying Presented by: Eric G. Rodriguez

2 Definitions Bully – adjective. fine; excellent; very good. [www.dictionary.com] Bullying - a student or group of students engages in written or verbal expression or physical conduct that: – Will have the effect of physically harming a student, damaging a student’s property, or placing a student in reasonable fear of harm to the student’s person or of damage to the student’s property; or – Is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive that the action or threat creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for a student. [TASB Model Policy FFI (Local)]

3 Bullying is Everywhere In the media. The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights issued a “Dear Colleague” letter about bullying on October 26, 2010. The Texas Legislature is poised to do more.

4 What Should You Do? Know you policies. – TASB Policies FB, FFH, FFI, FFF, and FG Train your personnel. – Staff working with students must know how to recognize bullying. Develop a reporting procedure. – Designate staff responsible for taking/receiving reports and investigating.

5 Keep Doing Something… Advertise policies and methods of reporting. – Staff, Students AND Parents. Educate students on prohibited conduct. Document complaints.

6 You’re Not Done… Investigate. – Prompt, thorough and impartial. End, eliminate and prevent bullying and harassment. – Take steps toward that goal. Prohibit retaliation.

7 And Finally… Follow up. – Continue to evaluate policies. – Keep track of new laws. – Modify policies accordingly.
