Grandview High School Boys Basketball

To run a program that positively enhances the lives of young men and begins a path to a promising future. The basketball program will bring honor and pride to the school’s faculty, students, administrators and alumni by producing basketball teams which are competitive at the highest level of the state.

We will create an environment and culture that encourages and cultivates our student/athletes to:  Pursue and achieve academic success  Pursue League and State Championships with class and integrity.  Grow into productive citizens who are role models both on and off the court.  Passionately respect, foster and draw on our cultural diversity.

 Meaningful relationships must exist between coaches and players, players and players, and coaches and coaches.  Be first class in all that we do. The basketball program, while teaching the athlete to put his best effort into every endeavor, helps the athlete to build the positive self image needed to reach his own goals and those of the program.  Competition demands the development of self- discipline, trust, commitment and teamwork. As the student/athlete learns to accept responsibilities of being self-disciplined, first class individual, he then truly becomes a winner.

 A coach is a leader that will not flinch when times get tough and must have unquestionable integrity.  Understand that those who play basketball must be taught. Those that are basketball players will learn.  Every player we coach deserves a coach who believes in him. If he is going to put on our uniform, we are going to believe in him.  Coaching is leadership; taking players where they can’t take themselves. Most importantly, coaches impact the lives of the students/athletes for the better.

 Coaches will be a team builder within the program, school and community.  Demonstrate a passion for high school basketball, leadership, teaching, meeting and counseling with players.  Attitude and chemistry are the keys to winning, no matter the talent level. The right attitude and chemistry always will lead us to winning.  You must be patient when you have nothing. A good attitude when you have everything. Be firm but compassionate.

 Only make comments about their son  Forget all remarks made by parents during the heat of the moment  Refrain from negative comments after the game  If having problems, a “face to face” is better than a phone call  Always have another coach present when meeting with parents

Not every player can be first team, All Conference or All State. However, everyone can play hard 100% of the time. The coaches will not allow anything less as it will produce absolutely nothing and will be a waste of valuable time. Know your role We will not have a chance to be successful if we do not know our roles. It takes five players, all knowing their roles, to execute effectively on the court. Winning Attitude The accomplishment a team can achieve increase when no one cares about who gets the credit. Everyone wants to win, but there are few who are willing to do what it takes or even know what it takes to win.

Cohesiveness Teams that are cohesive are always stronger than those that play as individuals. Their will always be an emphasis on team. The concept of togetherness helps the foundation of the team and helps 10-12 players appear as one. Citizenship Players’ actions are a reflection on the entire program, school and their family. They are expected to demonstrate first class behavior and be in control of all their actions. We will win with class and lose with class.

 To love and care for your son as if he were our own  To be a positive role model  To coach your son to be the best player he can be  To provide motivation for your son to develop strong work habits  To provide motivation for your son to develop himself physically  Encourage your son to do the right thing at all times  Encourage your son to work hard in class room  Promote an atmosphere of caring and respect  Promote honest and trustworthy behavior  Provide the discipline that it takes for your son to be part of the team concept

 Show support for your son with positive encouragement  Attend all of your son’s games you possibly can  Display positive enthusiasm for the TEAM, not just your son  Demonstrate of and the promotion of good sportsmanship  Express concerns in private and at an appropriate time with the coaching staff  Allow 24 hours after games before discussing concerns with coaching staff (win or lose)  No contact on Sundays
