2 Los adjetivos: Adjectives: Words that modify nouns
En español, most adjectives have either two or four forms When using adjectives in Spanish, one must always consider PLACEMENT and AGREEMENT.

3 ADJECTIVE AGREEMENT: If an adjective ends in O, A, OS or AS then it will usually have four forms and the form that you use in any given sentence must agree with the noun that it modifies. simpátco (m/s) simpática (f/s) simpáticos (m/p) simpáticas (f/p)

4 ADJECTIVE AGREEMENT: If an adjective ends in DOR or DORA then it will usually have four forms and the form that you use in any given sentence must agree with the noun that it modifies. trabajador (m/s) trabajadora (f/s) trabajadores (m/p) trabajadoras(f/p)

5 ADJECTIVE AGREEMENT: If an adjective ends in something other than these two, then it will usually have only two forms – singular and plural. inteligente (s) inteligentes (p)

PLACEMENT OF ADJECTIVES Restrictive adjectives placed in front of the noun Descriptive adjectives placed after the noun Nouns used as adjectives placed after the noun and separated by the word “de”

7 Exceptions to the rule…:
The adjectives good (bueno) and bad (malo) are descriptive adjectives but are generally placed in front of the nouns they modify. Also adjectives that reflect an inherent quality of the noun (cold ice) are also placed in front of the noun.

9 PRACTICE: some school backpacks a big desk five English books two Spanish students a disorganized notebook four hard working boys

10 PRACTICA unas mochilas de escuela un pupitre grande cinco libros de inglés dos estudiantes de español un cuaderno desordenado cuatro chicos trabajadores

11 Adjective Review 2 Form adjectives
End in “e” Stays the same for masculine and feminine singular. To make it plural add “s” Example- El chico amable, La chica amable. End in a consonant “L” “S” “N” Stays the same for masculine and feminine singular. To make it plural add “es” Example- El chico joven, la chica joven, los chicos jovenes, las chicas jovenes.

12 Adjective Review 4 form adjectives End is “o” or “a”
Make it “o” for masculine singular Make it “a” for feminine singular To make them plural add “s” Seria, serio, serias, serios

13 Practice Frank is nice. Frank es amable. I am funny.
Yo soy graciosa/gracioso. Mary is beautiful. Mary es bonita/guapa. I am smart. Yo soy inteligente.

14 Verb Tener Tengo= I have Tiene= he/she has

15 Practice I have glasses. Yo tengo gafas. He has blue eyes.
El tiene ojos azules. She has brown hair. Ella tiene pelo café. I have zits. Yo tengo granos.
