Mark Scheme... (i)One mark for one correct response - Boys (ii)Answers must be applied to an activity Negative answers can be credited Four marks, one mark for each correct response For candidates to gain marks they should make reference to body type, activity and effect/suitability is necessary. Marks should not be awarded for technical language in this part question but marks could be awarded in the context of QWC. Answers also need to be related to at least two physical activities. EXEMPLAR Gymnasts require muscular build in order to have strength/power/speed to perform well Rugby, front row requires body weight and muscle in order to push, hold, support etc Distance runners need to be thin with little body weight/toned, lean etc Athletics, different activities within athletics can all be rewarded, e.g., high jump, tall and thin, throwers big and muscular, sprinters powerful – muscular

L/O2: Carbohydrates What do carbohydrates provide us with?? Main energy source Do we know any examples of carbohydrates?? Bread, pasta, potatoes, bananas How can they help us play sport/have an active lifestyle? Provide us with lots of energy

L/O2: Proteins... What do proteins provide us with?? Build muscle mass/repairs muscles Do we know any examples of proteins?? Steak, chicken, fish, cheese, eggs How can they help us play sport/have an active lifestyle? Allows us to recover after sport/active lifestyle.

L/O2: Minerals... What do minerals provide us with ?? Stronger bones & teeth, regulates your bodies fluid levels and blood Do we know any examples of minerals?? Calcium – milk, sodium – salt, iron – liver & red meat. How can they help us play sport/have an active lifestyle? Limits our chance of injury & illness

L/O2: Vitamins... What do vitamins provide us with?? Fights infections, cell growth, energy metabolism. Do we know any examples of vitamins?? A, C, D, E, K and B vitamins (biotin, folate, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12). How can they help us play sport/have an active lifestyle? Keeps us healthy and allows us to produce energy effectively
