1942 Isabel Allende was born in Lima, Peru on August 2, 1942.
She is the daughter of Fransisca Llona Barros and Tomás Allende, who was the Chilean ambassador of Peru.

Lima, Peru Lima, Peru is where Isabel Allende was born. It is the capital of Peru and is the largest city there. Allende lived here until she was 3, when her parents got divorced.

1945 Isabel and her family moved to Santiago, Chile after her parents got divorced. They lived there for 8 years.

1953 to 1958 Isabel’s mother remarried to Ramón Huidobro, who is a diplomat appointed to Bolivia and Beirut, Lebanon. They moved to Bolivia, where she attended a North American private school. When Isabel lived in Beirut, she went to an English private school.

1969 to 1972 She worked for a children’s magazine called Mampato and later she became the Editor. She published two children’s books: La Abuela Panchita and Lauchas y Lauchones. Isabel worked in Chilean television production for channels 7 and 13. She got her first manuscript published, which were her satirical columns in book form.

The House of Spirits The House of Spirits is Isabel Allende’s first book published. She wrote it when she heard about her grandfather dying. The story is about three generations of the Trueba family of Chile. It became an instant bestseller when published in 1982.
