Survey course in field of sociology in Spring semester Professor: Melissa J. Wilde, Ph.D. Spring 2013 has two ABCS sections w/ 2 TAs Location: Jackson School in South Philadelphia Collaboration with Swarthmore class in the fall

Instead of one-on-one volunteering, students are working on applying for grants and creating curricula and programs to create long-standing impacts on the school beyond the semester

Creating an after-school program Applying for grants for a rooftop garden, playground, greenhouse, gym, music, and STEM equipment, green curriculum, recycling program, and multiple building renovations Create a multicultural club with accompanying curriculum Compile an history of the school with relevant data useable by future researchers

Attempt to make large change in impoverished schools for little money by using college students to seek out the needed funds and labor that over-booked principals and teachers in these schools often do not have the time to do New approach to UACS theory (possibly another way to work in and improve schools in West Philadelphia and beyond) End-of-semester analysis
