Evacuation Upon hearing the alarm: Leave room IMMEDIATELY by nearest safe exit Walk, Do not run and do not use lifts Follow EXIT signs Do not go back into the building at all Assemble at emergency assembly area −Assembly area locations are found on −the nearest fire action sign −The assembly area for this room is…… Follow instructions from Wardens (Wearing coloured vests) DO NOT re-enter building until an “all clear” is given

Other safety information: Preparing for an emergency (general) Know emergency procedures for your area (e.g. from emergency procedures flip chart, evacuation signage etc) Know the location of your nearest fire alarm call point Know where to locate a first aider and first aid kit

111 5030 Call 111 – state clearly the location (City, Massey, campus, road, building, room # etc) Another person to call Security on ext 5030 (or 06 3505030 on cell) −Security will attend and/or escort the Ambulance to the location If somebody has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest - Get an AED (defibrillator)! Call Security and/or get the nearest AED and use it (see next slide) Calling for an Ambulance

Protect yourself & others against illness: By good hygiene practices: Wash and dry hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds Keep coughs and sneezes covered and put tissues straight into the rubbish bin Social distancing - remain at least one metre away from sick people Keep areas ventilated If you been in contact with anybody with flu-like symptoms: Attend to your normal activities and follow good hygiene practices (above) Monitor your health regularly If you experience any symptoms during the day, then immediately inform your lecturer / supervisor and isolate yourself from others

Injury / Near-miss Reporting If you injure yourself on campus, in class, at the gym, in the grounds, etc or have a near-miss - Report it! Obtain an Accident / Incident Report form from your course administrator, online, or as advised by staff Complete the form, hand to your course administrator or Department representative Why? −so that the issue can be investigated and prevention measures implemented to prevent further injury

Policy All University buildings are totally smoke free The Concourse area at Turitea is smokefree Campus grounds are smoke free with the exception of designated smoking areas (At Turitea Campus, due to limited designated areas, no smoking within 10 metres) The smoke free policy applies 24/7 All staff, students, visitors and contractors are expected to abide by the smoking policy Disciplinary action may occur if the policy is breached. Call Quitline 0800 778 778 if you want to kick the habit or speak to the Massey Medical Centre who have a cessation nurse available.

Security Carry your student ID card on you at all times You can call Security 24 hrs x 7 days/week: –from the help line phones on campus, –from cell phone or landline on 06 3505030 or ext 5030, –for an escort to your car, taxi or bus stop after hours Do not allow people you do not know into the buildings after hours If studying/working alone on campus, let someone know you will be working late, the location & the time you expect to finish –In some areas you will require a Supervisors approval after hours At night, stick to areas that have other people around & that are well lit. If you feel nervous use the buddy system or call Campus Security for assistance Never leave your valuables unattended
