There are about 9,000 species of sponges known in the world today Sponges have multiple characteristics depending on specie, size, shape and form may differ

Sponges have two layers of cells separated by jelly-like material There are many pores in the outer layer to allow water to enter and be released The inner layer typically have flagella used for food digestion

Some sponges have spongean while others have amoebocyte REPRODUCTION Sponges reproduce by regeneration and/or budding. Some also use sexual reproduction DIGESTION The flagella picks up food and helps digest it within the sponge
