My Grandpa Merwa Siddek

Creativity? You mean my grandpa?

“ Creativity is something that a person is born with, not taught.”

Can you learn how to be creative?

It is very hard to learn how to be creative. This is because creativity is a gift from God to some humans, not all. This means that there are many people whom are not creative. A person cannot learn how to be creative. He/she can try. But it will not come out naturally like those whom are born with it. It’s creative to be creative.

Is creativity one thing; or one way?

There are many different ways of being creative. Cooking, kniting, sewing is also creativity. So, it’s not only drawing and playing with clay. Being intrapersonal and interpersonal is creative. Not everyone has those values. Whatever element specialize one person from another it counts as creativity.

Creativity is like Energy it can not be created nor destroyed. You cannot learn how to have a gift. This is because creativity is a gift.

Then who's creative?

A creative person that interests me the most out of many such as Redniss, is my grandfather. He inspires me everyday with everything he does.

Does he draw? Write? Taxidermy? Compose? Plant? Is he a poet? Lawyer? Music player? Author? Oud player? Arabic teacher? English teacher?

He does all that!!!! Me: grandpa! How can you draw like this? How did you learn it? Grandpa: “ This is not learned! This is humans gift from God” Scientifically some people are visual learners by nature, or can remember numbers and facts from first hearing them. (Everyone’s a Visual Learner) by CFT Acting Director Derek Bruff

He believes that each one of us is gifted with something from God. However, if this is the case than he is gifted with many different gifts. His proficiency of drawing is tied to his imagination. This goes back to Bronowski’s definition of imagination. It’s the ability to manipulate images in the mind’s eye.”

He is one of the most recognizable writers and poets in Iraq. He published around 28 books. Some of them are fiction and some are nonfiction. He owns a whole library in our family house. It includes more than 3,000 books.

Me: Grandpa, don’t you get tired of reading those old books? Grandpa: “ honey, old is gold. I would get tired and sick if I didn’t read them!”

He cannot live without reading. He barely sleeps. He spends all his day at the library in- between the books.

He inspires me by having all those ambitions of writing at this late age. I wish that I can be like him one day. It is very hard to not be inspired and interested by his creativeness and accomplishments.
