VISION EDUCATION REFORM Tyronne Burns

INTRODUCTION Where are we with the public education system? What are the major problems, concerns and issues? Where do we need to be? How will we get there? “If you always do what you have always done, Then you will always get what you have always gotten.”

Education ACCOUNTABILITY SCHOOL FUNDING TECHNOLOGY NCLB High Dropout Rate Low Graduation Rates Lack Of Qualified Teachers Teaching To The Test

PROBLEMS Academic standards that continue to rise and have become unreasonable, not measurable, undesirable and politically influenced. Increase in the dropout and failure rates. Decrease in the graduation rates. Because of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) continuing to raise the bar, many schools are not meeting the minimum standard and it affects the school funding. “Teaching To The Test” Teaching students how to take a test as opposed to teaching the curriculum and objectives. No consistent vertical alignment from elementary school, to middle school and high school.

OBJECTIVE To provide a successful learning environment for all students. Adequate training for teachers through professional development (Stetson & Associates) for inclusion and co-taught classes. Train teachers with a differentiated classroom model. Teaching styles vs. Learning styles. Provide a high, but measurable level of academic performance and achievement resulting in college readiness. Incorporate the state sales tax and pari-mutual wagering (Horse & Dog racing tracks) percentages as a supplemental source of school funding.
