TRIBE TRADITIONS Don’t point your finger at a rainbow. It will cut it off. Don’t stand on high rocks. It will grow into the sky with you. Tattoos, drawing, or writing on the body is prohibited.

What did they eat Navajos were know for eating the following foods. Corn, beans, squash, melons, peach’s, chilies, onions, mutton, small wild game, elk, deer, big horn sheep, antelope, yucca fruit, prickly pear fruit, berries, wild greens and seeds.

Navajos lived in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and a small part of Colorado. The Navajo people are still living in their traditional territory today.

How did they dress? Navajo clothing for both men and women initially was deer skin for shirts and skirts. The men later wore cotton or velvet shirts with no collars, breeches below the knee, and moccasins. Women gradually wore the “squaw dress” made of plain dark blankets.

How big is the tribe? Enrolled tribal members as of 2011, 300,018. It is one of the largest and mast involved North American tribal governments. They have there own Judicial system, law enforcement, and social services.

They have a Navajo Territory that covers in 927,425 square miles
