Definition A preposition is a word that shows a connection between a word and another part of the sentence. Prepositions usually tell about a location in time or place.

Some Common Prepositions above, about, across, after, among, around, at, before, behind, beside, below, beneath, between, by, down, in, in front of, inside, into, near, next to, on top of, outside, to, toward, through, under, up, with, and within

Example Many people eat lunch at noon. At tells the time when people eat lunch. This preposition tells about a location in time.

Example She puts paint on the fence. On tells the place where she puts the paint. The preposition tells about a location of place.

Example The hat is in the box. In tells in what place the hat is. This preposition tells about a location of place.
