3 What? sustainable rural development (Broederlijk Delen, TRIAS, VECO, VSF) -Integrated approach towards food- and income security at household level -support to smallholder farmers to professionalise their farms and produce for the market (farming as a business) -Empowering groups of farm households technically, economically and organisationally -Working through- and with agro-enterprise groups -Sustainable agricultural market chains development – linkages. - new levels of farmer organizations, - higher levels of production, -more structured linkages with market actors, through multi stakeholder processes -and increased financial and management capacities at the individual and group level.

4 What? sustainable rural development (Broederlijk Delen, TRIAS, VECO, VSF) -Improve livestock production -Support to animal production and marketing as a tool for poverty reduction and economic development -Support to animal health. -Stimulate local economic development, improve access to credit -Cross cutting issues: -Sustainable natural resources management -Inclusion of vulnerable groups in society (women, youth, hiv/AIDS patients). -Advocacy -Capacity building of individuals, groups, organisations, government

Integrated water resources management (Protos) –Diverse (innovative) Water and Sanitation interventions combined with protection measures within the catchment –the set up of institutional platforms for improved management –studies (water and sanitation situation, environmental issues, hydrological studies, …) as a basis for improved planning; –Development of different tools for sensitization and involvement of local communities

6 What? Improved access to justice (ASF) –Fight against domestic violence and child trafficking (in collaboration with our partner Uganda Association of Women Lawyers) –Fight against illegal detention and torture –Training –Sensitisation, awareness raising –Legal advice & litigation

7 Collaborations -All INGO’s work with local partner organisations: -Member organisations -Service NGO’s -(local) government -Financial institutions -Research institutions -Few long term partnerships between universities/research institutions and NGO’s -Potential areas of interest: -Local impact of climate change and adaptation strategies for farmers -Access to markets, local economic development -Group dynamics, organisational development -Epidemiology (both animal and plant diseases) -Space to exchange experiences and challenge thinking, -Innovations suitable for small scale farmers
