An Introduction to Prepositions With sentences from Houghton Mifflin Text p. 244-245

Think of a preposition as any word that describes the relationship between a caterpillar and an apple. In the picture below, all of the prepositions are underlined.

So you’ve seen some examples of prepositions. Watch this video to see more! Now, write down as many prepositions as you can think of!

Now for a little practice… Choose a mystery object. Choose a volunteer to step outside the room. Now hide the object in some place in the room using a preposition (ex.- under a chair, inside a desk, etc.)

When the volunteer reenters the room, s/he must ask questions using prepositions to try to determine the location of the mystery object. (ex- Is it beside a computer? Is it on a shelf? Is it on a desk? Is it on John’s desk?) The volunteer has 20 questions to try to determine the location of the object. The teacher will record all of the questions so that the class can find the prepositional phrases in the questions. Good luck and have fun!
