Little words can make a big difference in meaning.
The words on and under show a different connection between the words skate and table. A word that shows the connection between other words in a sentence is a preposition. The skate is on the table. The skate is under the table.

A prepositional phrase begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun. All the words in between are part of the prepositional phrase. Mike glided easily across the frozen pond. His friend cheered for him.

Directions: Say what the prepositional phrase is and then the preposition.
Bill hurried through breakfast. She quickly pulled the hood over her head. She took her new riding boots from the closet. She took a handful of sugar cubes from the sugar bowl. Then she ran all the way to the stable. The stable was just around the corner. Bill whistled and peeked under Kory’s door.
