Invaders crossed the mountains of the Hindu Kush and spread across northern India. A thousand years after the Indian civilization that began in the Indus Valley. Britain gained direct control of India’s trade with Europe in 1757. The British control was called “Raj”, which lasted almost 90 years.

Europeans came to India looking for things to trade such as, cloth, spices, and things can’t get ahold of in Europe. Independence brought the division of India. The Muslims of West and East Pakistan separated from India. Which caused violence between Muslims and Hindus.

Under Nehru’s leadership, India adopted a constitution and became a democratic republic in 1950. India is the worlds largest democracy. Just like the United States India is federation of states held together by a strong central government.

Reflects elements of both the American and the British system. There are many different ethnic groups, cultural, and religious factors influence Indian politics. One major factor is the Hindus and Muslims. India is strongly Hindus so Indian leaders must take Muslims interest into account.

Indians depend highly on farming but farming families struggle to survive off the food they grow for themselves. In the 1960’s agricultural science introduced farming techniques to improve production.

They have a lot of industries there most are beginning development such as iron, steel, chemical, machinery, and food industries.
