3. THE MAIN SYMPTOM IS THAT DECISIONS ARE NOT COLLECTIVE. A LL OTHER PARTIES MERELY RUBBER STAMP S TRONG RESISTANCE TO ANY CHANGE IN THAT DECISION - MAKING, WHERE THE L EAGUE L EADER MIGHT LOSE HER TOTAL CONTROL OF THE L EAGUE B OARDS OF THESE L EAGUES USUALLY DON ' T GOVERN, BUT INSTEAD " APPROVE " P LANS / IDEAS THAT DO NOT COME FROM THE L EAGUE L EADER USUALLY DON ' T GO VERY FAR.

4. In other words, regardless of the size of the League, everyone who is NOT the League Leader is relegated to the role of support staff to the League Leader. “So what’s wrong with that?”

5. HERE’S WHAT’S WRONG… L EAGUES FACING L EAGUE L EADER ’ S S YNDROME USUALLY HAVE LITTLE INFRASTRUCTURE BECAUSE IT SIMPLY HASN ’ T BEEN NEEDED. I N THESE SITUATIONS, THE L EAGUE L EADER IS THE INFRASTRUCTURE !

6. WHAT LEAGUE LEADERS NEED TO KNOW O NCE YOU HAVE BIRTHED IT, IT IS NO LONGER YOUR BABY.

7. O NCE YOU GIVE A GIFT, IT ’ S NO LONGER YOURS.

8. A LONG WITH THE DECISION TO BRING A CHILD INTO THE WORLD COMES THE RESPONSIBILITY TO RAISE IT TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. T HE WORLD DOESN ’ T OWE YOU ANYTHING FOR HAVING LED YOUR L EAGUE. I T ’ S NOT ABOUT YOU.

9. SO WHAT IS A LEAGUE LEADER TO DO?

10. LET’S START WITH THE PERSONAL SIDE: A CKNOWLEDGE THAT SOME DAY, THE SPLIT WILL HAPPEN. G ET HELP. *This is especially important for those of you who don’t believe you have League Leader’s Syndrome, but have heard it whispered about you.

11. FROM THE ORGANIZATIONAL SIDE: A HEALTHY L EAGUE STARTS WITH A HEALTHY BOARD. C REATE A SUCCESSION PLAN THAT PROACTIVELY DEALS WITH ALL THE THINGS YOU ( OR THE BOARD ) ARE SCARED MIGHT HAPPEN WHEN YOU LEAVE T RAIN SOMEONE NOW WHO COULD REPLACE YOU, EVEN TEMPORARILY, IN THE EVENT SOMETHING HAPPENS TO YOU.
