A template can include labels, values, formatting, range names, formulas, comments, and more. A template is often used for routine, repetitive documents that have slight variation from day to day, week to week, or month to month.

You can download a copy of any of these templates from Microsoft Office Online. They download as regular workbooks that you can edit and save. A copy of the template is saved in your My Templates folder, too.

Use the Save As command to save the template with an appropriate file name. You can create a workbook from any template, edit it, and save it as your own template with a different name.

This property works with the Protect Sheet command. When you use worksheet protection, the user cannot edit or change cells or objects unless they have been unlocked.

Microsoft Office Online maintains a gallery of professionally designed templates for each product in the Office suite including Excel. You can record macros in a template. The workbook must be saved as a macro- enabled template.

Workbook protection prevents the user from resizing or moving windows and from adding, deleting, or changing worksheets. You can assign a password to a protected worksheet or workbook.
