All rights reserved.  A template is a model workbook.  A template can include labels, values, formatting, range names, formulas, comments, and more.  A template is often used for routine, repetitive documents that have slight variation from day to day, week to week, or month to month.

All rights reserved.  The online Microsoft Template Gallery includes many professionally prepared templates in several categories.  You can download a copy of any of these templates from Microsoft Office Online.  They download as regular workbooks that you can edit and save.  A copy of the template is saved in your My Templates folder, too.

21 a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved.  Workbook protection includes the structure and the windows.  Structure refers to inserting, deleting, moving, renaming, and hiding worksheets.  Windows refers to resizing, moving, and closing the windows.

All rights reserved.  When you create a workbook from a template, the new workbook is named with the template name and a number.  Use the Save As command to save the template with an appropriate file name.  You can create a workbook from any template, edit it, and save it as your own template with a different name.

This property works with the Protect Sheet command.  When you use worksheet protection, the user cannot edit or change cells or objects unless they have been unlocked.

All rights reserved.  Microsoft Office Online maintains a gallery of professionally designed templates for each product in the Office suite including Excel.  You can record macros in a template. The workbook must be saved as a macro- enabled template.

All rights reserved.  An Excel template has an xltx file name extension.  A macro-enabled template has an xltm file name extension.  Workbook protection prevents the user from resizing or moving windows and from adding, deleting, or changing worksheets.  You can assign a password to a protected worksheet or workbook.
